The beauty of being a maker means that my skills can stretch to a range of contexts. This is how I ended up being commisioned to help create the backdrop for Runway Entertainment’s 2019 touring production of Hair. This project involved cutting out an incredibly large number of colourful polysatin strips with nothing but a pair of pinking sheers and the determination to meet a deadline.

I worked on much of this project at The Unicorn Theatre London’s in-house costume studio, one of my favourite places to work as it is home to a large number of creative projects and practioners that share the space. My role for this project was primarily ‘strip cutter’ before the pieces were sent to a drapers to be stitched together and hung to create the backdrop. I was totally blown away to see the final outcome of the work in the production photos below and really pleased I got to contribute to it.
